Community leader and advocate for families and children, Margaret Feierabend, is the latest addition to the Board of Directors
Nashville, TN – May, 2014 – Attachment Parenting International (API), a non-profit global network of parenting support groups with more than 70 locations around the world, announces its newest Board of Directors member, community leader and advocate for children and families, Margaret Feierabend.
With a Masters Degree in Community Health Education, a husband who is a physician teacher of Family Medicine, Margaret began her community volunteer work in her home of Bristol Tennessee teaching childbirth and parenting classes. Currently she serves on Bristol Tennessee City Council (16 Years), and actively promotes building assets with families, children and youth. Her community accomplishments include being part of establishing several new programs and organizations serving the Bristol area. Bristol has the honor of being identified as one of America's Promise's 100 Best Communities for Children and Youth. Margaret is proud of and grateful for her three loving and caring children to whom she is very attached and she is excited about her new role as grandparent of twins.
“I'm thrilled to welcome Margaret to our Board of Directors! Margaret brings a passion for the well being of children and youth. We'll benefit greatly from her experience with healthy communities and prevention strategies. She's dedicated herself to public service, serving many years as city councilwoman and mayor, as well as providing training and leadership to nonprofit organizations. Her experience, vision, and compassion will be invaluable to API," said Janet Jendron.
Margaret Feierabend said, “At the time my 3 children were born and I was teaching Red Cross childbirth and parenting classes, Cesarean rates were rising and breastfeeding was on a slow growth curve. Today education and work to decrease Cesareans and increase breastfeeding as well as other attachment work needs to be done more than ever. I am pleased to join the API board to help promote parenting that supports children for successful, meaningful lives. In our Bristol Tennessee Virginia Community I helped found Bristol's Promise whose goals include providing America's Promise's 5 Promises to our children and youth. Attachment Parenting complements these goals and helps to further America's Promise nationally as well. I look forward to working with the API board.”
Attachment Parenting is based in the practice of nurturing parenting methods that create strong emotional bonds, also known as secure attachment, between the infant and parent(s). This style of parenting encourages responsiveness to children’s emotional needs, enabling children to develop trust that their needs will be met. As a result, this strong attachment helps children develop the capacity for secure, empathic, peaceful, and enduring relationships that follow them into adulthood.
Attachment Parenting International (API) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit member organization founded in 1994 to network with parents, professionals and like-minded organizations around the world. API’s mission is to educate and support all parents in raising secure, joyful and empathic children in order to strengthen families and create a more compassionate world.
